After much wait, Mahindra has finally revealed the much-awaited XUV400 electric. The XUV400 electric is the first electric SUV by Mahindra and it is a part of Mahindra’s XUV.e brand. The XUV400 will start arriving at dealerships by December 2022 followed by the opening of bookings, price reveal, and deliveries in January 2023. When launched, it will go up against the Tata Nexon EV Max.

Design
The overall design of the XUV400 is similar to the XUV300 and it even retains the same width and 2600 mm wheelbase. However, the XUV400 is longer at 4200mm. The front fascia of the XUV400 is quite different when compared to the XUV300. The grille is closed off and finished in body color. It gets ‘X’ elements which are finished in Copper and Black. Mahindra’s new Twin Peaks Logo sits in the middle finished in Copper. Unlike the XUV300, the LED DRLs of the XUV400 don’t extend to the lower half of the bumper.

Speaking of the bumper, the XUV400 gets a reworked front bumper with different air inlets. It also gets a dose of the Copper treatment just like the grille. The alloy wheels are the same 16-inch units that the XUV300 was recently updated with. The rear features reworked LED taillamps and a tailgate that is similar to the XUV300. The XUV400 is offered in five color options Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, and Infinity Blue. Customers can also opt for a contrasting Copper roof.

Interior
The interior of the XUV400 is similar to the XUV300 in terms of design and layout. However, Mahindra has given an all-black theme to the XUV400 as opposed to the lighter interior shade of the XUV300. The XUV400 also gets Copper elements on certain parts like the A/C vent surrounds and infotainment system knob. It also gets Piano Black inserts for the steering wheel. It also gets the same 7-inch infotainment system and instrument cluster with MID which now gets blue dials instead of red, unlike the XUV300. The gear selector is new and replaces the traditional gear stick. The XUV400 comes with features such as climate control, single-pane sunroof, cruise control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and connected car technology with over-the-air updates. The added length has also increased the boot space which now stands at 378 liters.

Safety
The XUV400 EV retains all its learnings from the XUV300 Global NCAP rating as it is built on a five-star rated platform and comes with class-leading safety features. Other than this, it offers six airbags, disc brakes all around, ISOFIX seats, and an IP67 rating for the battery pack.

Performance And Range
The XUV400 gets a 39.4 kWh battery pack and is powered by a front-axle mounted electric motor that produces 148hp and 310nm of torque. It can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 8.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 150 km/h. It gets a claimed range of 456km (MIDC cycle) on a full charge. The batteries can be charged from 0-100% in 13 hours via a standard 3.3kW/16A socket. Use a 7.2kW/32A outlet and that time gets reduced to 6 hours and 30 minutes. Plug it into a 50kW DC fast charger and it will take only 50 minutes to charge it from 0-80%. The XUV400 also gets three driving modes-Fun, Fast and Fearless which adjust the steering, throttle response, and level of regenerative braking. It also gets a ‘Lively mode’ that enables single-pedal driving.
