Mahindra Unveils Exciting EV Roadmap: XUV, BoleroE, TharE, and ScorpioE Gears Up for the Future!

Mahindra has recently unveiled their pik-up and Thar: E concept models, marking an exciting step towards their upcoming electric vehicle lineup. In addition to these captivating concepts, the company has shared further insights about their upcoming electric vehicles. These insights include essential aspects like the powertrain specifications and their anticipated launch timeline.

Notably, Mahindra has taken this opportunity to showcase its new logo for the electric vehicle division, underlining its commitment to sustainable mobility. Let’s deep dive into the specifics of these upcoming electric vehicles and discover what lies ahead in this electrifying journey!

XUV E8 E9 to get motors from BYD Valeo; BE motors from Volkswagen

Along with the details of the INGLO platform, the automaker has also shared the powertrain details of their upcoming electric vehicles. The initial models will get BYD and Valeo-sourced batteries and motors. Later on, it will introduce VW-sourced components.

The automaker confirmed these details by revealing different electric motors for their upcoming EV models. However, the XUV series will arrive early with the Valeo-sourced motor mounted on the rear axle. This motor will produce approx. 231hp of power and 380nm of torque output. With this, the electrified XUV series will be RWD only.

On the flip side, the BEV series will use the more powerful electric motors sourced from Volkswagen. While the 2WD models will use a single rear-mounted electric motor with 286hp of power and 535nm of torque. The 4WD models will use a twin motor layout for the front and rear axles. Each motor will produce 109hp of power and 135nm of torque output. The BEV series is currently under testing and it will be launched later.

Furthermore, the automaker has shared the details about the various battery packs. Their new battery packs will use advanced LFP battery cells with a battery capacity of up to 79kWh. Meanwhile, the automaker claims that the new battery pack will offer more benefits than existing LFP technology. It includes a charging time of 0-80 per cent in 30 minutes.

Mahindra Electric Vehicles to be loaded with Features and Tech

Mahindra has embraced innovation by collaborating with Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman for creating a new anthem for its electric SUVs taking inspiration from Hans Zimmer and BMW collaboration. The audio experience is further enhanced with a transition from Sony to Harman/Kardon as the audio provider. The audio will feature a 16-speaker sound system with a Dolby Atmos system with 3D surround sound and active noise cancellation.

Moreover, the automaker has taken the infotainment to the next level with three expansive 12.3-inch screens across the dashboard’s width. The cutting-edge features include 5G connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and Vehicle-to-X (V2X) connectivity. The Safety features include Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package supported by cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors.

Mahindra BoleroE, TharE, ScorpioE in the works

In addition to the XUV series and BEV series, Mahindra is working on the development of the EV versions of its esteemed SUVs, including BoleroE, TharE, and ScorpioE. These electrified counterparts will provide new life to the Bolero, Thar, and Scorpio models. While the concept version of Thar.E has already made its appearance, the ‘.E’ badge will feature in both the Scorpio and Bolero electric variants.

An interesting fact is that all three models will be based on the INGLO skateboard platform, a departure from their current ladder-frame chassis. Despite the excitement, specific launch dates for these three remarkable models remain undisclosed at this juncture.

Launch Timeline and Conclusion

Mahindra’s electric SUV lineup is gearing up, with the XUV e8 to lead the charge as the first new electric SUV, set for launch in December 2024. Like the XUV700, the XUV e8 will retain the familiar shape, size, and seven-seat layout. What sets it apart is its new INGLO skateboard platform.

Following suit is the XUV e9, scheduled for an April 2025 debut. Showcasing a sportier coupe-SUV design, the e9 will feature two rows of seats. But it will share its mechanicals and interiors with its e8 sibling.

Meanwhile, the transition to electric isn’t limited to adaptations. The carmaker will also introduce the new BE series. Leading this charge is the BE 05, a coupe SUV spanning 4.4 meters, set to launch along with the BE Rall. E off-road, in October 2025. Followed by the Mahindra BE 07 which boasts a touch of luxury, slated to launch in April 2026—six months ahead of the initially planned October timeline.

The Automobile Industry is going through a significant transition of mobility and innovation. Mahindra is among the various automakers which are adopting a new propulsion of mobility. However, Mahindra will continue to sell the existing conventional vehicles for catering for the needs of the people.

The BEV and XUV series of concepts are the answer to the forthcoming Tata Curvv and Avinya. These concepts represent the brand’s unwavering commitment towards future mobility, innovation, and sustainability.
