Jeep made its Indian debut earlier this year at the 2016 Auto Expo held in Delhi. The company, owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is expected to launch the Jeep product range soon. We even had the opportunity to review one of their models, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Even as we await the launch of the models, another product from the company’s portfolio has been spied testing.

Spy images sent by Motoroids reader Akshay Koli reveal a test mule of the Jeep Renegade. The model was spied testing in Mumbai. The premium compact SUV has been spied on a few occasions earlier as well. The company is believed to have been testing the Renegade in India for quite some time now since the time it was imported to the country for R&D purposes.

Powering the Renegade internationally is a 1.4 litre and 2.4 litre diesel engine while the model imported to the country features a 2.0 litre four cylinder diesel engine. The latter, currently available for Euro-spec models, comes in two states of tune, 138 hp and 168 hp. This engine is said to send power to the wheels with the help of a 6 speed manual transmission and a 9 speed automatic gearbox respectively.

Jeep India has not revealed any details about the launch of the Renegade although we expect the model to be launched for the Indian market sooner or later. Once launched, the Renegade will be the entry level model for the company and would take on the likes of the Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta.
