Is DSK-Benelli planning to venture into Indian scooter market?

The DSK-Benelli duo may venture into the Indian scooter market in the long term. The news comes from automotive website Autocar Professional who spoke to one of the Board Members of Benelli, George Wang. Another Benelli official said that the Italian manufacturer will likely introduce its sister brand Keeway’s 125cc and 150cc models of Cityblade.

Keeway Cityblade with its 125cc single cylinder two valve motor delivers 9.25 bhp of power at 7500 RPM while the 150cc engine delivers 11.3 bhp at 8000 RPM. Both the scooters are similar in terms of dimensions and the tip the scale at 1950mm in length, 755mm in width and 1130mm in height. Both motorcycle have a fuel carrying capacity of 7 litres and can reach speed of up to 90kph.

The primary strategy of the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer is to localise the production for lower cost of production and competitive. DSK-Benelli India recently launched five products for the Indian market which would come into the country via the CKD route. DSK-Benelli will assemble these motorcycle at company’s plant in Pune.
