INTERMOT 2016: New Kawasaki Z650 revealed, to replace the ER-6n

It’s been raining new/updated product launches/unveils at the 2016 INTERMOT in Cologne, Germany. Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki has unveiled a number of refreshed products such as the limited edition Ninja ZX-10RR, 2017 Ninja 650 and so on. In this article, we are getting you all the dope on the 2017 Kawasaki Z650.

A replacement to the ER-6n, the new Z650 benefits from the Sugomi design philosophy that can be seen from the sleeker body work apart from the new tank fairing and headlight. Moving on to the instrument cluster, the bike receives an analogue style tachometer and a multi function LCD screen divided by the gear position indicator.

Akin to other products from the Akashi based motorcycle maker, the engine of the Z650 too has been re-tuned in order to conform to the Euro 4 emission norms. The 649cc parallel twin motor now has a power output of 69 hp, 3 hp lower than the outgoing model, while the fuel efficiency has gone up by 6.8%.

Tipping the scales at 187 kg, the Z650 has a seat height measuring 790mm. The model also comes equipped with the slipper clutch as seen on the Z900. ABS duties will be taken care of by the Bosch 9.1M unit as opposed to the conventional Nissin unit.

The new Z650 will be available the following colour options – Pearl Flat Stardust White / Metallic Spark Black, Candy Lime Green / Metallic Spark Black, Metallic Flat Spark Black / Metallic Spark Black and Metallic Raw Titanium / Metallic Spark Black.
