It has emerged that the much hyped upcoming Honda Brio MPV would be christened as the Honda Mobilio.
The Honda Mobilio will be unveiled at the Indonesian International Motor Show on September 19 and will be launched in Indonesia next year. The car will be available in three trim levels- S, E and E CVT. Powering the car in Indonesian market would be a 1.5-liter petrol engine. Honda cars dealers in Indonesia are already accepting unofficial bookings for the Brio MPV for an amount of 5 million Indonesian Rupiah, although neither the prices nor the tech specs have been released yet. The starting price of the upcoming MPV, however, is expected to be around the 200 million rupiah mark. The production of the car could commence only by next year. The Mobilio would be produced at the company’s new Karawang plant in West Java.
The Mobilio has been jointly developed by Honda Asia Pacific and PT Honda Prospect. In Indonesia, the Mobilio will compete with the Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia, Chevrolet Spin and the Maruti Ertiga.
It may be noted that this isn’t the first time that Honda is using the Mobilio brand. Earlier, the carmaker used to sell a large MPV by the same name, which was later replaced by the 2009 Freed.
Speaking about the upcoming Honda Mobilio, Tomoki Uchida, President Director of P.T. Honda Prospect Motor has previously said,” The new Honda MPV has been developed especially for the needs of customers and road characteristics in Indonesia. This model will also be locally produced in Indonesia as the first product of its new Second Plant in Karawang, scheduled to begin operation in early 2014. This makes the new Honda MPV a very special product for Honda in Indonesia.”
The India launch of the Honda Brio MPV is expected to happen sometime in late 2014 and we won’t be too surprised to see Honda showcasing the Mobilio at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
