Google driverless cars complete 482,803 kms of testing

Regulars here would be aware that we have been closely following the developments related to Google’s driverless cars that have been testing in various traffic conditions. Now, the recent update on this technological marvel is that these cars have completed 300,000 miles (482,803 kms) of testing. This mileage is equivalent to 12 round the world tours. What is even better is that not even a single mishap with the driverless cars has ever been reported. The next step for the engineers is to program algorithms to help the car respond to temporary construction signals, snow covered roadways and other such conditions that affect car drivers.

Rumours are already floating that Google cars will be hitting the roads as soon as in 2016!!

Is this the future of cars?

  1. well I don't understand WHY ! but google has also ventured into providing Extremely fast Internet Connection i.e. Google Fiber.
So may be they are really focussing on diversifying the business ! 🙂

  2. I don't bother about whether this venture is made by an auto mobile or an IT company…
(Nokia was originally a rubber factory, but does it really matters when I purchase a new phone?)
I just interested in how seamlessly, interruption free it works & at which cost.. That's all!

  3. My WHY is to understand why such a vast behemoth focused on search has decided to expand horizontally into a diverse field as this. Just because it has Image Recognition doesnt mean it should go to such lengths. Where will this profits come from? And there are many auto companies who can do this. In fact GM has also tried this initiative.
