Geneva 2011: Skoda reveals VisionD Concept, next-gen Octavia?

With its VisionD Concept, Skoda wants everyone to know what design direction the brand is going to take for its future models. Featuring a long wheelbase and very short overhangs, the VisionD Concept hints at Skoda’s focus on maximizing cabin space and comfort.

The new design philosophy also tries to make Skoda look more futuristic and contemporary. The sleek lines along with a reworked grille and the new logo give you a fair insight into what the upcoming Skoda cars may look like. The lines on the bonnet, and the shoulder lines are still very Skoda and have a strong connection with the brand’s design lineage. It still manages to look muscular and sturdily built, while allowing some sleekness at the same time.

Roughly of the same size as the Skoda Laura in the Indian market, the VisionD Concept presents novelty in design via a redesigned C pillar and a sportier stance. The headlamps are now slimmer and in the Concept version seem to be lit in way reminiscent of the Star Wars franchise.

The car looks even more futuristic from the inside. The interior design hints at reduction of switches and buttons as much as possible. The center console utilizes new materials such as clear glass to add some extra bit of class to the cabin.
The VisionD, although a Concept car, doesn’t look like the outcome of a wild dream some crazy designer had one fine night. It’s much closer to reality than we would like to think. For all we know this may just be the next-gen Octavia (Laura) with some changes made.

“We are keen to express the new power of our brand not only through our future products, but also in the way we present ourselves to partners and customers. Our new design and fresh outlook reflect our plans for the future,” said Jürgen Stackmann, head of marketing and sales at Skoda
