Is this how the Fiat Punto Adventure aka Punto Cross would look like?

We reported in detail when a set of Fiat Punto Adventure aka Punto Cross spy shots surfaced on the cyber space a couple of days ago. The Punto Adventure is India bound and will join the likes of Cross Polo and Fabia Scout.

The upcoming model will be basically a more ‘macho’ looking version of the Punto and should appeal to those who have been looking for a rugged car but have been staying away from SUVs.  The Fiat Punto Cross, as this rendering suggests, would come with plastic body cladding, a tail-m0unted spare wheel, would have more ground clearance and bigger wheels. 

Like most such cars, the Punto Adventure will share its engine with the regular variants and in India, will come with a 1.2 ltr FIRE normally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.3 ltr Multijet turbo diesel engine. Both these motors come mated to a five speed gearbox, which sends power to the front wheels. Hoping Fiat Punto Adventure aka Punto Cross to come with four wheel drive option will be a far fetched dream.

The Punto Adventure is expected to be similar in dimensions to the regular hatchback and would measure 3,987 mm in length. However, the addition of a tail mounted spare wheel could make the upcoming model longer than 4,000 mm. However, the car would still manage to benefit from excise duty concessions in India, as addition of a external body part won’t affect its sub-4m credentials in the eyes of government. As we said earlier, the Fiat Punto Adventure aka Punto Cross will rival the Cross Polo in Indian market. Also headed our way is the Etios Cross, which is expected to greet us at the Auto Expo 2014.
