Fiat is getting more serious about the Indian car market with every passing day. After coming up with well sorted cars in the guise of Punto and Linea, the car maker is now eyeing the fast emerging mini MPV segment to snatch a chunk of sales from the high selling Maruti Ertiga. It has emerged that we might soon see Fiat India expanding its arsenal with the introduction of a seven-seat version of the highly publicized 500L micro-MPV.
The fact that the 500L will be based on a modified Punto platform should help in keeping the costs under check. Also, India has always been in love with ‘retro styled’ cars and hence, the 500L, in all probability, would be perceived as a ‘premium’ product by the car buying lot. The 500L’s seven seat version will come with three rows of seating and the dash should have inserts that will match in colour with that of the car. Safely expect the diesel variants of the 500L to be powered by the same Multijet oil burner that is found in the Ertiga.
