It has emerged that the Indian subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz intends to capitalize on the burgeoning demand for supercars in India by opening up exclusive AMG dealerships in the country.
There are good chances that Mercedes AMG will have exclusive outlets in most major Indian metros by next year. This decision comes on the back of Indian customers warming up to AMG brand of high performance vehicles. Mercedes AMG cars are currently being sold in the price range of INR 90 lakhs to INR3 core-plus. So far, more than 200 AMG cars have been sold in the country.
Talking about the AMG models, Mercedes Benz India managing director and CEO Eberhard Kern said,”We have been successful with the AMG range and demand has been outstripping supply. We believe the segment has the potential for independent growth and could lead the performance drive in India.”
The latest addition to Mercedes’ range of AMG cars in India is that of the SLK 55 AMG roadster. Priced at rather stratospheric INR 1.26 crores (ex-showroom Delhi), the performance variant of the SLK Class joins the likes of E 63 AMG and G 63 AMG. The new car is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5 liter AMG V8 engine, which produces 421 HP and 540 Nm of torque.
The AMG models from Mercedes directly rival BMW M-Series and Audi’s S Line vehicles.
Talking about his expectations from the AMG models and growing performance car market, Kern said,”We expect demand to increase once these exclusive stores come up for the discerning Indian customers, who will not have to travel to our factory in Pune to customise these cars. We would be offering the option to place order to configure cars to have the unique AMG driving experience,“
