End of the Road for BMW 6 Series GT in India

BMW India has quietly discontinued the 6 Series GT from its lineup. The move comes on the heels of the launch of the new 5 Series LWB, which is positioned as a direct replacement for the outgoing 6 Series GT.

The 6 Series GT, introduced in India in 2018 and facelifted in 2021, enjoyed significant success in the market. In FY2024, it outsold even popular SUVs like the BMW X3, Land Rover Defender, and Audi Q5, with a total of 1,428 units sold. This strong performance underscores the demand for luxury long-wheelbase sedans in India.

Powered by either a 2.0-liter petrol engine producing 255 bhp or a 2.0-liter diesel engine generating 188 bhp, the 6 Series GT offered a compelling blend of comfort and performance. While the new 5 Series LWB is currently available only with a petrol engine, BMW has confirmed the introduction of a diesel variant in the future. The high-performance M5 plug-in hybrid is also on the cards for the Indian market.

With the discontinuation of the 6 Series GT, BMW’s sedan lineup now consists of the 2 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series (including the electric i4), and the flagship 7 Series (also available as an electric i7).
