The Datsun redi-Go concept was showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. This concept is actually a preview of Datsun’s third product. The third product of Datsun will be positioned a tad lower than the Datsun Go hatchback. In comparison to the Go hatchback, the Datsun redi-Go concept appears zesty and edgy.

The Datsun redi-Go concept will lead the way to an entry-level car which will be marketed in various developing countries. Possible markets will include those of Russia, India and Brazil. Markets in these countries haven’t yet matured, and buyers tend to gravitate towards small, fuel-efficient and inexpensive cars.

And that is exactly where Datsun’s mumbo-jumbo of Dream-Access-Trust will come into play! Like the Go hatchback, the Datsun redi-Go hatchback is expected to offer personal mobility solutions at a very economical price-point. Accessorisation and features might be kept to a bare minimum, unless Datsun decides to spring us a surprise as with the Youthful looks of the redi-Go as comparison to the bland styling of the Go hatchback.

The production version of the Datsun redi-Go concept will squat on the Renault-Nissan CMF-A platform. It is a common platform developed by both the companies for few of their upcoming models. One such model is the Renault XBA entry-level small car, the counterpart of the Datsun redi-Go concept. Sharing a platform reduces costs of development as well as production, and thus brings in more revenues and profits for the company.

Even though technical details of the Datsun redi-Go concept remain hazy, rumor mills point towards a 800 cc petrol powerplant. It is being developed at the Renault-Nissan Technology Business Center in India.

A production version based on the Datsun redi-Go concept would lock horns with the Maruti-Suzuki Alto and the Hyundai Eon. It could be price in the range of INR 2.5-3.0 lakhs.
