Quick Overview

  • Citroën C3 now gets an official CNG retrofitment kit via authorized dealers
  • Delivers up to 28.1 km/kg mileage with minimal compromise on comfort and space
  • Retains factory warranty and Citroën’s signature ride quality

Citroën Adds a CNG Twist to the C3

Citroën India has announced an official CNG retrofitment option for the C3 hatchback, aiming to offer budget-conscious buyers a cleaner and more affordable fuel alternative. The retrofit is available across authorized dealerships and is priced at ₹93,000.

This development comes as part of the brand’s strategy to stay relevant in a market increasingly inclined towards alternate fuels. And with CNG infrastructure expanding rapidly across India, the timing couldn’t be more practical.

No Compromise on Space or Comfort

What sets this retrofitment apart is how well-integrated it is. The CNG nozzle fits neatly into the existing petrol filler cap, and the boot space remains usable—a rarity for CNG-converted hatchbacks. Even the spare wheel stays accessible.

To make sure the added weight doesn’t mess with ride quality, Citroën has reworked the rear suspension with tuned shock absorbers, reinforced springs, and an anti-roll bar. According to the company, this helps preserve their signature “flying carpet” ride.

Specs and performance

The CNG kit is compatible only with the 1.2L naturally aspirated variants—Live, Feel, Feel(O), and Shine. The claimed mileage stands at 28.1 km/kg, and average running costs are pegged at ₹2.66/km. Engine calibration has been tweaked for smooth performance on both petrol and CNG.

Importantly, the factory warranty of 3 years/1,00,000 km remains intact, and the CNG components come with separate warranty coverage, courtesy of Lovato.

Targeted at Fleet and Private Buyers Alike

Citroën says the C3 CNG is well-suited for high-mileage users, including fleet operators and rideshare drivers. With over 7,400 CNG stations expected by FY2025, the infrastructure now supports such conversions more practically than ever before.

Competition Check

The C3 CNG will go head-to-head with the Tata Tiago CNG, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG, and Maruti WagonR CNG. What makes Citroën’s offering different is its retrofitted-yet-factory-validated approach, giving users the peace of mind of a branded installation
