BYD Seal U SUV Unveiled at Geneva Motor Show

BYD showcased the Seal U SUV at the Geneva Motor Show 2024 marking its presence as the second body style in the Seal lineup after the sedan.

The Seal U SUV

The Seal U SUV, already known as the BYD Song in China, makes its European introduction at the Geneva Motor Show. Larger than its sedan counterpart, the Seal U SUV stands at 4,775mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,670mm tall, promising a spacious and commanding presence on the road.

Powertrain Options

One of the standout features of the BYD Seal U SUV is its versatile powertrain options. In China, this SUV is available with both an electric (EV) and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain.

The EV variant boasts either a 71kWh or an 87kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, providing an impressive claimed range of 520km and 605km, respectively (Chinese CLTC test cycle).

For those opting for the PHEV version, a 107hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine combines with a robust 197hp electric motor, coupled with a CVT.

The 18.3kWh battery offers around 110km of electric-only range, ensuring a dynamic and eco-friendly driving experience. Notably, the PHEV model also features vehicle-to-load charging capability as standard.

Feature Highlights

The BYD Seal U SUV comes loaded with an array of features, making it an enticing option for tech-savvy and comfort-seeking drivers.

Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, vegan leather upholstery, wireless phone charging, an Infinity premium sound system, and the brand’s impressive 15.6-inch rotatable infotainment system.

BYD’s Line-up in India

As BYD continues to make waves in the electric vehicle market, it’s worth noting their current offerings in India. The Atto 3 SUV and the E6 MPV are already making strides, and the Seal sedan is poised to join the Indian market on March 5.

What We Think

The Geneva Motor Show debut of the BYD Seal U SUV marks a significant chapter in BYD’s legacy as a global leader in plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs).

With a robust presence in China and an increasing footprint in Europe, BYD continues to shape the future of eco-friendly and innovative transportation.
