Chinese carmaker BYD(Build Your Dreams) has launched the E6 electric MPV at ₹29.15 lakh for private buyers. The EV was previously available only for commercial buyers and now it has been launched for private buyers at the same price. The MPV is available in two variants, namely, GL and GLX. The E6 is the only electric MPV that you can buy in the Indian market today.
The E6 is an electric 5 seater MPV based on an I.C.E powered car called the Song Max. It is 4695mm long and 1810mm wide and it sits on a 2800mm wheelbase. The MPV features projector headlamps, LED DRLs and LED taillamps. It also gets 17-inch alloy wheels. The interiors feature simply laid out dashboard with a single-tone black theme. It gets piano black inserts on the passenger side and on the door pads to uplift the cabin. The BYD E6 is full of features like a 10.1-inch touch screen with android auto, a rotary gear selector, a multi-information display, automatic climate control. And as safety features the BYD E6 is equipped with 4 airbags, ABS, traction control, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, and a tire pressure monitoring system. BYD E6 is powered by an electric motor that produces 94bhp of power and 180nm of torque. It is fitted with a 71.7kWh battery which is expected to return 522km on a single charge. It has a top speed of 130 km/h.
The E6 can be charged using a 60kW dc charger as well as a 40kW AC charger, with a DC charger it can be fully charged in 90min and with an AC charger, it can be fully charged in 108min. The GLX trim offers the option of a 40kW wall-mounted AC fast charger, which can do a full charge in two hours.The E6 is assured with a 3years/1,25,000km warranty and a battery cell warranty of 8years/5,00,000km. Since the E6 is the only electric MPV that you can buy in the Indian market today, it doesn’t have any direct competition. Cars like the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona EV are priced in the same price bracket.
