BMW unveils the new 7-Series Protection: Details!

BMW has officially unveiled the Protection versions of the 7-series models. While the i7 is the first ever electric vehicle of its kind. The sedan gets the same class VR9 protection which ensures a high level of safety for the passengers.

The German carmaker has a long history of making protection spec bulletproof vehicles. And the new 7 Series Protection models are no different. While it looks like its regular model. But it gets subtle changes in its design.

For starters, the 7 series Protection models get the optional pack of flashing lights and flag poles. Also, the sedan rides on special 20-inch alloy wheels. However, the special wheels support its powerful braking system and are accommodated by the Michelin PAX run-flat tires of size 255-740 R510.

Apart from this, there are no major changes to the BMW 7 Series Protection version. The German carmaker has designed the Protection version in order to maintain a low-profile stance.

Furthermore, the protection version is available with the M-Sport package as standard. However, the customers can modify this vehicle from BMW’s end as per their choices and needs.

BMW 7-Series Protection: Safety Features

The new BMW 7-Series Protection models come with a bulletproof steel structure known as BMW Protection Core. The German carmaker has provided this structure for surviving attacks from firearms and explosives.

Meanwhile, the safety shell includes an additional bulletproof safety for the underbody, thicker window glass, and a self-sealing casing for the fuel tank. The company also claims that the passengers are safe from drone attacks with explosives and grenades.

The sedan is also available with optional add-on features like a fresh air supply system. Also, the fire extinguisher with discharge feature is available as an add-on. It provides improved protection and safety in specific attack situations.

BMW 7-Series Protection: Interior and Features

The German carmaker has not only focused on safety, but it also has provided some comfort creature features as well. The sedan gets a standard intercom which allows the driver and passenger to communicate with people outside the car. For this system, microphones, external speakers, and more interior speakers are added to the sedan.

BMW also offers a 28-speaker premium Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Audio System in the 7 Series Protection models. The sedan also gets sun blinds on the rear doors with a semi-closed spy option. However, the doors are operated via an electric motor. The windows also have a heating function for better visibility.

Meanwhile, the 7-Series Protection models get an optional cool box and an additional mirror that works as a rear camera display. With this display, passengers can know that who is chasing and following them without looking behind.

BMW 7-Series Protection: Powertrain Details

The BMW has borrowed the components of the M70 Xdrive for the i7 Protection version despite being based on the Xdrive 60 variant. The i7 Protection uses a dual electric motor setup that produces 536hp and 745nm of combined output to all its wheels.

The performance of the i7 Protection version has some noticeable effects due to its additional weight. With this powertrain setup, the i7 Protection does 0-100km/h in 9 seconds and a limited top speed of 160km/h. However, the regular i7 does 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 240km/h.

Meanwhile, BMW also offers the IC engine version of the 7 Series Protection model. It uses a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 petrol engine which produces 523hp of power and 750nm of torque output. However, the power is sent to all its wheels via 8-Speed Automatic Gearbox and Xdrive AWD system. The 7 Series Protection does 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 210km/h.

BMW 7-Series Protection: Debut, Production and Deliveries

BMW is gearing up for the public debut of the 7 Series Protection models. The Carmaker will unveil it at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich in September.

Meanwhile, the production of the 7 Series Protection models will start at the Din Golfing plant. However, the carmaker will start the deliveries in December of 2023.

The BMW i7 Protection will be available in European markets only. It means that the other global markets will get the 7 Series Protection with a 4.4L engine only. Furthermore, the automaker offers special training courses to professional bulletproof BMW drivers.
