Mahindra showcased Quanto Autoshift (AMT) at the Auto Expo 2014.
The Mahindra Quanto Autoshift seen here is draped in the Arctic Blue shade. The autoSHIFT transmission used on the car has been developed in collaboration with Ricardo, UK.
The gearbox works in the same way as of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT and is a 5 speed unit. The new autoSHIFT transmission is designed specifically to improve driving experience and fuel economy in city driving conditions. Mahindra says “the autoSHIFT combines the efficiency advantages of a manual transmission while providing the smooth comfort and convenience of an automatic.”
The autoSHIFT transmission on the Quanto works in combination with an advanced ECU and hydraulic actuation system that senses demand and initiates gear changes on a highly optimized shift map providing good fuel efficiency.
Mahindra says the Quanto autoSHIFT is also equipped with regenerative braking technology, in which kinetic energy is recovered through an alternator and stored in the battery which reduces the need of generation during subsequent travel, which would lead to fuel saving of up to 40 liters per year.
