We are reporting LIVE from Auto Expo 2014 and Mahindra and Mahindra has showcases the XUV500 Diesel Hybrid variant here at the motor show.
In order to give the show goers a good view of the technologies that go into the making of the XUV500 Diesel Hybrid, Mahindra have put to use transparent acrylic body panels for their latest XUV variant.The manufacturer claims that the new XUV500 Diesel Hybrid is as much as 18 percent more fuel efficient than the regular diesel powered variant.
The new car’s powerplant consists of a regular internal combustion diesel engine and an electric motor. Providing juice to this permanent magnet synchronous motor is a lithium ion battery. The electric motor provides the diesel engine with power assistance at low engine speeds and also while the car is undergoing acceleration. The XUV500 Diesel Hybrid’s advanced powerplant makes us of regenerative braking to revitalize the battery.
Speaking about the new Mahindra XUV500 Diesel Hybrid variant, Dr Pawan Goenka, executive director and president of automotive & farm equipment sector said that the XUV500 Diesel Hybrid falls under ‘Accessible Technology’ and that the manufacturer is working on to come up with several sustainable mobility solutions, encompassing alternative technologies into the R&D and commercialisation plans.
