2017 Hyundai Verna will feature a mild hybrid system

Hyundai India launched the new Elantra in August 2016, following which the Tucson was brought in the Indian market earlier this month. Reportedly, the Hyundai Elantra managed to garner over 1100 bookings and upto 18,000 enquiries within two months of its launch. While the aforementioned sedan and the SUV have received their well deserved update for 2016, its time for the Verna to get one as well.

According to latest reports, the 2017 Hyundai Verna is already being prepared and shall make a debut in India the second half of next year. Previously, the 2017 Verna made its global debut at the 2016 Chengdu Motor Show in China where it was planned to be sold initially. Based on the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, the Verna has received an updated design work with each and every body panel crafted from scratch.

The engine options made available in China are a 1.4-litre or 1.6-liter petrol engines that are good enough to produce 100 hp and 123 hp respectively. A 6-speed manual transmission will be standard, while a 6-speed automatic transmission is available as an option. For India, Hyundai will likely strap a mild-hybrid technology to the engine of the compact sedan.

The technology will be similar to what Maruti Suzuki rolls out the Ciaz and Ertiga with. It will not only make the Verna deal attractive but also make the sedan more fuel efficient. The hybrid system will be assisted by regenerative braking feature where power is restored into the battery when the brakes are applied. The conventional starter will be likely replaced with the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) working in the vehicle’s start-stop system that will increase the fuel efficiency.

Once launched in the market, the 2017 Hyundai Verna with the mild-hybrid system will be the second vehicle in its segment to get the hybrid tech after the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, which it will be competing with.
