FCA India launched the Made-in-India Jeep Compass at a starting price of INR 14.95 lakh (ex-Delhi). The Compact SUV is now available for test drives and bookings at all 50 FCA and Jeep retail outlets across India. Deliveries of the vehicle will begin across the country on August 6, 2017. The Jeep Compass is manufactured in FCA’s Joint Venture manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, near Pune, and is made of 65% locally sourced components.
The Jeep Compass range is available to Indian customers in three trims – Sport, Longitude and Limited, and in a combination of 10 variants. The Sport variant comes with black upholstery while customers have a choice of dual tone cloth or leather upholstery respectively, in the Longitude and Limited trims.
A few highlights of the Jeep Compass include a seven inch touchscreen UConnect Infotainment system and integrated control stack that facilitates hands-free phone calls and text messages, cabin temperature and air flow control, lights and brakes adjustment, music and integrated voice command functions. The infotainment system also features Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
The Sport and Longitude trims are available in two-wheel drive (4×2) only while the top of the line trim, Limited comes with choice of 4×2 as well as four-wheel drive (4×4) options. The Limited is equipped with Jeep’s Active Drive with Selec Terrain Traction Management System that lets the driver chose from four terrain modes – Auto, Mud, Sand and Snow.
Frequency Sensitive Damping (FSD), a suspension damping technology inside the strut normally utilized in performance or race cars, is used in the Compass. According to Jeep, the Compass is the most aerodynamic SUV made by them so far. At a glance, the Jeep Compass resembles its bigger and more luxurious sibling, the Grand Cherokee. The front fascia features the signature seven-slot grille. The Compass inherits the trapezoidal wheel arches, which can be found on every Jeep product built since the 1940’s.
The Jeep Active Drive 4×4 system with Selec Terrain Traction Management System can send up to 100% of its available torque to any one wheel when required. It features rear axle disconnect technology with a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) which manages the 4×4 system. This technology responds to driver inputs and road conditions and changes between 4×2 and 4×4 seamlessly.
Customers can choose from two powertrain options – the 173 PS, 350 Nm, 2.0-litre MultiJet Turbo Diesel and the 162 PS, 250 Nm, 1.4-Multi-Air Turbo Petrol. The Diesel variant is being offered with the 6 speed manual transmission while the Petrol comes with both options, the 6-speed manual as well as the 7-speed DDCT (Dry Dual Clutch Technology) automatic transmission.
The Compass comes with features such as Electric Parking Brake (EPB) which comes with four modes to keep the vehicle absolutely stationary when applied and also accounts for human error. Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control (TC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Hill Ascent Control (HAC), disc brakes on all four wheels, front airbags are all standard safety equipment across the range.
FCA has also introduced its global service and customer care brand Mopar in India.
All 48 FCA authorized workshops across 48 Indian cities are now Mopar-branded and technicians are trained as per global standards and diagnostic techniques to attend to all service-related issues should they arise. Mopar, an after-sales and customer service brand, will be managing services related to vehicle insurance, extended warranty, annual maintenance packages, Jeep Express Lane service, battery program and tyre replacement program right across India, under the Mopar Vehicle Protection plan.
The Jeep Compass will be available with a three-year/100,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and in addition, a complimentary Road-side Assistance (RSA) package for three years. Customers can avail of an extended warranty program to enjoy additional warranty up to one or two years. Customers can also choose from over 30 accessories developed for the Made in India Jeep Compass, available at all authorized sales and service outlets.
Commenting on the launch and price announcement, Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India, said that due to the overwhelming public response to the Jeep Compass, coupled with a significant number of pre-bookings and enquiries, they have decided to advance the price announcement so that potential customers can finalize their purchase decisions. Analyzing their pre-bookings data it has made sense for them to prioritize the deliveries of diesel manual transmission variants. They will deliver petrol automatic transmission variants closer to Diwali.
