Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo Camper Van based on V-Class

Well endowed people in Europe, with a flair for adventure and travel can now opt for the Marco Polo camper van from Mercedes-Benz. Based on the latest generation V-Class and developed in alliance with camper van specialist /Mercedes-Benz partner Westfalia, the Marco Polo- christened after the fabled Italian traveler of the same namesake, will be shown at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The van looks pretty stock on the outside, but for camping duties the Marco Polo has a few tricks lined up its sleeve inside – from the stowage facilities and seating/sleeping arrangements to the all the outdoorsy equipment. The interiors get a complete, high quality makeover with a new floor plan, fabric or leather seats, yacht-inspired wooden flooring, piano black trim and porcelain-colored surfaces to give an impression of “unexpectedly generous space,” according to Mercedes-Benz.

Being a camper, the van gets a dedicated kitchenette with two gas burners, a sink and a compressor refrigerator with a capacity of 40 liters and a cooling output of up to minus 20 degrees Celsius. On board are two tanks-the fresh water tank with a capacity of 38 liters, and the waste water tank with 40 liters of capacity.

It’s time to sleep. With the flick of a switch, the two electrically adjustable rear seats will be transformed into a lavish bed. And for those who want to gaze at the stars for a bit before sleeping, there’s a second one as well in the pop-up roof compartment.

The Marco Polo will be offered with three four-cylinder turbo diesel engines in three output variants (134hp, 161hp and 188hp). It goes on sale in Germany July 29^th onwards.
