Motorcycles often stick with the riders for years. Many Royal Enfield owners still use their old bikes on a daily basis and trust their bikes for work, travel and long highway runs. With fuel changing throughout the country, it is now more important than ever to keep these motorcycles healthy.
To support owners of its older machines, Royal Enfield has introduced official E20 conversion kits for BS3 and BS4 motorcycles. This step enables riders to go on using their bikes safely with current ethanol blended fuel sold at fuel stations.
The E20 fuel contains 20 per cent ethanol which can slowly damage parts in motorcycles originally designed for pure petrol. Bikes made prior to BS6 era are more vulnerable to this. Royal Enfield has already made all its BS6 models E20 compatible but earlier bikes required a proper solution.
The new conversion kits are intended for carburetted UCE motorcycles, principally:
- Classic 350
- Bullet 350
- Thunderbird
The kit contains ethanol resistant fuel lines, seals, O rings and related parts. These components help avoid common problems such as fuel blockages, rubber damage, corrosion and poor fuel flow.
For BS4 models, the E20 conversion kit can cost approximately Rs 1,700. While there is no kit for older 500cc motorcycles, Royal Enfield retailers state that some parts in the 350cc kit can be used where necessary.
Apart from long term protection, riders may also notice smoother idling, easier cold starts and better throttle response, especially on bikes that have already started showing signs of fuel related trouble.
