Maruti Suzuki Commences Export of Fronx: Ships First Batch

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has started exporting the Fronx crossover, which is made in India. The first batch, consisting of 556 units, was sent to Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East from the Mundra, Mumbai, and Pipavav ports. Moreover the Fronx is a crossover based on Maruti’s Baleno and was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2023.

After all Maruti Suzuki is India’s biggest exporter of passenger cars. Fronx is the newest model which Maruti has added on their export portfolio.

Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The newly launched Fronx is an important model in our portfolio, and we are confident that it will augment our ambitious export plans. Aligned to Government of India’s efforts towards Make in India, we are focussed to lead the export of cars manufactured in India. With support from our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan we have expanded our portfolio and are now exporting to more markets. The customers of Fronx in India can feel good that their much-loved vehicle will also become the choice of customers globally.”

The Fronx crossover is based on the platform of Maruti’s premium hatchback, the Baleno. However, Fronx features a higher riding stance compared to the Baleno, giving it an SUV-like feel while maintaining the dimensions of a hatchback.

There are two engine options available for the Fronx. The first option is a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine, which delivers 100PS of power and 148Nm of torque. The second option is a 1.2-liter, four-cylinder naturally aspirated Dual Jet, Dual VVT petrol engine, generating 90PS of power and 113Nm of torque.

When equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, the 1.0-liter engine provides a mileage of 21.79kmpl. Although with a five-speed AMT transmission, it offers a mileage of 22.89kmpl. Whereas, the 1.2-liter engine achieves a fuel economy of 21.5kmpl with a five-speed manual gearbox and 20.01kmpl with a six-speed automatic transmission.
