Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Breaks Cover!

Toyota might be late to the game but they’ve come out all guns blazing by finally revealing the Urban Cruiser Hyryder! The Urban Cruiser brings in a host of first-in-segment powertrain technologies and features. Bookings for the mid-size SUV are already underway for a token amount of ₹25000 and we expect it to launch next month. Let’s take a look at it:

Design

The Urban Cruiser Hyrydyer is 4365 mm long, 1795 mm wide, and 1635 mm tall. It gets a wheelbase of 2600 mm and it is based on the Suzuki Global C platform which underpins the Suzuki S Cross and Brezza. The front fascia of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder features slim LED DRLs which are connected by a thick chrome strip. The chrome strip is further accentuated by a piano black background. Toyota calls this the crystal acrylic grille.

The lower half features a large grille that houses the number plate. The LED projector headlights are placed below the LED DRLs and are surrounded by a black element. There’s also a silver skid plate on the bottom. The side features 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. It gets a large ORVM which houses a camera underneath and the front fender gets a Hybrid badge too. The rear gets split LED taillamps which mimic the design of the LED DRLs up front. Other details include a large chrome grille on the boot, a shark fin antenna, and silver roof rails.

Interior

The interior of the Hyryder features a mix of Maruti and Toyota’s interior design themes. The Neo Drive variants get an all-black theme whereas the Strong Hybrid models get a black and brown dual-tone theme. It gets a layered dashboard with soft-touch leather on the passenger side. There is an extensive of silver elements on the door panels and center console. The center stage is taken up by a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that gets Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It also gets Arkymys sound tuning for an enhanced sound experience. The Urban Cruiser also gets Toyota’s-Connect’s 55+ connected car features including remote vehicle ignition.

Other interior details include ventilated leather seats, a 7-inch MID, and a center sliding armrest. In terms of features, the Urban Cruiser comes loaded with push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, a heads-up display, 360-degree parking camera, a panoramic sunroof, and an auto-dimming IRVM to name a few. The rear-seat passengers get A/C vents, USB chargers, and a center armrest. It also comes with a 60:40 split function. Toyota claims that the SUV has best-in-class boot space.

Safety

The Toyota Urban Cruiser comes with dual airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear disc brakes, three-point seatbelts for all the passengers, Vehicle Stability Control, and Hill Start Assist as standard. Higher variants get 6 airbags and TPMS as well. AWD variants additionally come with Hill Descent Control.

Powertrain

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder comes with two petrol engine options. The first engine is a 1.5-liter mild-hybrid unit that produces 101 Hp and 136 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Though it comes as a front-wheel-drive as standard across all variants, the mild hybrid manual variant can be exclusively paired to an All Wheel Drive powertrain with selectable terrain modes. The other engine is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated Atkinson Cycle engine that makes 92 Hp and 122 Nm of torque.

This engine is paired with an electric motor that produces 79 Hp and 141 Nm of torque. The total output produced is 115 Hp. It comes mated to an e-drive transmission. This system is paired with a 177.6 V lithium-ion battery. This enables the Hyryder to run on an electric-only range of up to 25km. Toyota claims that this enables it to have the best in class fuel efficiency.

Variants, Colors, and Warranty

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder is available in E, S, G, and V grades for the mild-hybrid engine. The strong hybrid model is available in the S, G, and V trims. It is offered in 7 Monotone & 4 Dual-tone exterior colors. The Monotone colors are Cave Black, Sporting Red, Speedy Blue, Enticing Silver, Cafe White, Gaming Grey, and Midnight Black. The Dual-tone color option with a Black roof is available with Cafe White, Sporting Red, Enticing Silver, and Speedy Blue. Toyota is offering a 3-year/1,00,000 km warranty, which can be extended to 5 year/2,20,000km. The carmaker is also offering an 8-year/1,60,000 km warranty on the hybrid batteries.
