Mahindra & Mahindra has released a teaser of its upcoming BS6-compliant Alturas G4 SUV in the Indian market. The new Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 SUV is scheduled to go on sale in India in the coming weeks, after being spotted testing on multiple occasions in the country. While Mahindra has upgraded almost its entire line-up in India to comply with the stringent BS6 emission norms, the Alturas G4 is one car which is yet to receive the mandatory update.
The teaser of the BS6-compliant full-size SUV has been listed on Mahindra’s website, indicating a launch very soon. However, the flagship SUV from Mahindra is said to carry the same powertrain and features from its BS4 model. The BS4 version of the Mahindra Alturas G4 is powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine. It produces 180 PS of maximum power and 420Nm of peak torque, mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox, sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The same power figures are expected in the BS6 compliant model.

Apart from the updated engine, the Mahindra Alturas G4 could also feature a set of newly designed alloy wheels. The new design was first seen on the test mules, which have been spied testing in the country on multiple occasions. The new Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 will carry forward all the features and equipment from its previous model. The full-size SUV offering from the Indian brand comes loaded with a host of premium and luxury features, making it an extremely attractive offering in the segment.
The feature list includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, dual-zone automatic climate control, an electric sunroof, a powered tailgate and front ventilated seats.
In terms of safety, the Alturas G4 comes equipped with features like nine airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability program, hill start assist, active rollover protection, traction control system, brake assist system, hill descent control, cruise control, high-speed warning, seatbelt reminder and a host of others.
Mahindra has started accepting online bookings for the BS6 compliant version of its flagship SUV. Customers can book the Alturas G4 for a token amount of Rs 50,000. The BS4 version was available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options, however, the online booking option for the BS6 version is open only for the four-wheel drive variant. This leads us into believing that the BS6 Mahindra Alturas G4 might be available in a single 4×4 variant from now onwards.
Mahindra retailed the BS4 Alturas G4 in two variants – 2WD and a 4WD trim, priced at Rs 27.7 lakh and Rs 30.7 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. However, we expect a minor hike in prices for the BS6 version. Upon launch, the updated Alturas G4 will continue to rival the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Isuzu MU-X in the Indian market. The launch is slated to happen once the lockdown is lifted and the current situation improves.
