Dunlop unit to resume production from Dec 2

Dunlop India management announced on Tuesday its intention to resume production at Sahaganj plant in Kolkatta from December 2, 2009.

The Sahaganj plant was suspended since November 30, 2008, following a rift between the workers and the management regarding the management’s proposal for a temporary shutdown of the plant.

The plant reopened on March 6, 2009, and started routine maintenance with 229 workers. However, the company was unable to restart production at the plant immediately as the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co refused to restore power supply to the plant. After protracted deliberation over the terms of the letter of credit, WBSEDC restored power on November 9, 2009 after the company issued bank guarantee of Rs 1.61 crore in favor of the power utility.

The company has hung a notice at the entrance of the Sahaganj plant announcing its reopening in order to inform its employees.
