In a very unfortunate incident, Anton Yelchin – best known for his role as Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek reboot series, met with a tragic accident. The fateful accident took place at the actor’s Studio City home in Los Angeles on Sunday, 19 June. Reports suggest that the 27 year old actor was found pinned against a brick pillar and a security fence by his own 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV. Yelchin was on his way for a rehearsal and since he didn’t make it to his destination, his friends arrived at his residence where he was found dead.
Reportedly, there are statements by cops who say that the actor did not put the Cherokee into park mode properly before exiting the vehicle and that might have caused the deadly accident. Previously in April 2016, Fiat Chrysler Automobile was reported to have recalled 1.1 million units including 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee to attend the issue regarding owners complaining that their vehicle wouldn’t go into park mode. User also reported that their vehicle would just roll away. Although, the tragic incident points towards the malfunction of the SUV, allegedly there are tales that say that the engine of the Cherokee was running and was (mistakenly) put in neutral when it drove down the steep driveway and dashed the actor. In this scenario the investigating officials are yet to find a reason why Anton got out of the car.
Amidst these confusing and contradicting reports that have surface, it is not conclusive as to what went wrong, but what remains unchanged is that Star Trek has lost their wonder child – Pavel Chekov.
