The new Mahindra Thar is still some time away; rumours suggest that it’ll only make an appearance in far-away 2018. However, that doesn’t stop keen fans of the Thar to imagine what the next avatar of their favourite off-road/lifestyle vehicle will look like. A speculative rendering of the next-generation Thar was recently posted on off-road forum 4×4 India, which keeps the old school charm intact, yet adds the right contemporary elements.
In the rendering, the butch looks stay intact, but new age fittings like LED headlamps have gone into recreating a modern face. However, purists might whine at the loss of the trademark ‘Jeep’ grille. The windscreen is now a wraparound element, while the utilitarian lines on the sides have disappeared for a more cleaner look. To be based on a new generation body-on-frame platform with better structural rigidity, the next-generation Mahindra Thar is likely to be a new 1.5-liter motor from the mHawk family of diesel engine. The Mahindra Thar featured a minor update last year, which saw small exterior design changes and an refreshed interior.
