A host of new vehicles are going to make a debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show. The latest model to join the long ‘leaked’ list which almost regularly precedes such auto shows is the BMW X1 facelift. In its upgraded avatar, the X1 now features a redesigned front bumper which now gets a dash of silver for that added ‘premium’ feel. The radiator grille has been redesigned and the fog lamps have dug in a bit deeper within the bumper. While the headlamps remain unaltered in terms of shape, there seem to have been changes made within. Tail-lamps, ORVMs and side sill have all passed under the scalpel too. Ditto for the rear bumper. The new version also gets new alloy designs and colors to widen the choice for prospective customers.
There are minor changes within the cabin too, nothing significant though. The trim on the center console has been altered slightly, air vents now get a bit of chrome and the steering wheel has been smothered with aluminum.
While such changes are always welcome, we don’t see them as significant enough to raise the appeal of the mini SUV by much. The backseat of this vehicle isn’t quite nice to ferry your family around. We think that some changes should have been made to the suspension and other components affecting the dynamics of the car to make the ride quality more compliant. That, probably would have really come as a real upgrade.
No changes are expected in the engine department, and expect the vehicle to continue to be powered by the 2.0 liter diesel and petrol engines with and output of 177 and 150bhp respectively.
Expect the new variant to make an appearance on the Indian shores by early 2013. Watch this space for more updates.
