There is no denying that thanks to success of cars like the BWM X6 and the Range Rover Evoque, an increasing number of premium car manufacturers are busy developing their own iterations of the ‘coupe crossover’.

One such manufacturer is Mercedes Benz, which has been working on development of an all new model to take on the likes of the BMW X6. This upcoming Merc will also be seen locking horns with the Audi Q6.

The upcoming coupe crossover from Mercedes will be called as the MLC Class and is expected to make its public debut in 2015.

Mercedes was recently spotted testing the MLC Class and the pics you see here are of test mules of the upcoming model from Stuttgart based luxury car maker. We kid you not, for the vehicle in these pics really isn’t a Mercedes M Class. Instead, it is a MLC Class being tested in clothes borrowed from the M Class. The widened wheel arches, which hint at a wider and more planted stance, are a clear give-away of this fact. Also, the convoy of cars that you see here has a pair of BMW X6 vehicles, probably for benchmarking purposes.

The new Mercedes MLC Class will be produced at Mercedes’ facility at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. As we said earlier, this will happen sometime in 2015. Mercedes is likely to initially go on sale in Europe, US and China and engine options could be borrowed from the M Class. Safely expect an AMG version to come soon after. The MLC AMG would be powered by a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8.

Stay tuned to Motoroids for more news on the upcoming 2016 Mercedes MLC.

It remains to be seen if the upcoming 2016 Mercedes MLC would become as popular as the BMW X6.
