Mercedes GLG Class to debut in 2015

SLC is not the only miniature version of a larger car that Mercedes is developing. While the stunning SLS will get a baby brother in guise of SLC, the G Wagon will get the company of GLG, a toned down version that will be based on the MFA platform seen on the A Class.

The GLG has been codenamed as the X156 but thanks to a boxy styling that borrows some design cues from the G Class, the upcoming Merc is being called the ‘mini-G’.

Powering the Mercedes GLG Class would be a 1.6-litre gas burner that will offer 122bhp to play with. Other engine options that can be expected are a 211bhp 2.0-litre petrol with 4wd mechanism, a 109bhp 1.8-litre diesel and a 204 bhp 2.1-litre oil burner.

It is being said that an AMG version is also in the pipeline and would be called as the GLG45 AMG.

The GLG will be a niche offering and will be more of a soft roader than a hardcore mud plugger.

Mercedes GLG Class should be out by 2015.
