Maruti Suzuki S-Cross unveiled; to get two diesel engines across 8 variants

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki S-Cross has been officially revealed in Mumbai today. When launched later this month, it’ll be pitted against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Ford Ecosport and the soon to be launched Hyundai Creta.

Maruti’s first ever crossover will be powered by a choice of two diesel engines – while the range topping 320 DDiS version of the S Cross features a brand new 1.6-litre diesel engine, equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger and good enough for 118bhp; 320Nm of torque, the 200 DDis version gets the familiar 1.3-litre diesel engine, which in this trim produces 89bhp and 200Nm of torque.

The 320 DDiS is exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission, does 0-100 kph in 11.3 seconds and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.7km/l. Mated exclusively to a five-speed manual gearbox, the 200 DDis does 0-100 kph in 13.2 seconds and promises a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.65km/l. Automatic transmissions and all wheel drive systems are not being offered, at least on launch.

Safety features of the S Cross comprise of high-strength steel components in the car’s construction, dual air-bags, all-wheel disc brakes with ABS as standard across the range. Features include Cruise Control, Rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps with projector illumination, Climate Control, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth as well as a TFT screen in the instrument cluster.

The S-Cross will come with a choice of five exterior colours which include Urban Blue, Caffeine Brown, Granite Grey, Premium Silver and Pearl Arctic White. The S-Cross will be sold in a total of 8 variants – 1.3L Sigma, 1.3L Sigma (O), 1.3L Delta, 1.3L Zeta, 1.3L Aplha, 1.6L Delta, 1.6L Zeta & 1.6L Alpha – through Maruti’s premium Nexa dealerships.
