Car Sales June 2015: Hyundai reports 8.3 percent growth; shifts 36,300 units in domestic market

With the imminent launch of the Creta compact SUV approaching, Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) seems to be riding on a wave of profits, somewhat. The Korean carmaker reported an 8.3% growth in domestic sales for the month of June. The Korean carmaker sold 36,300 units, compared to 33,514 units sold over the same period last year. The company cumulatively sold 50,518 units in June 2014, whereas the cumulative sales number for June 2015 stands at 52,062, a bump of 3.1% YoY.

However, not all numbers have been great for Hyundai Motor India (HMIL). The carmaker exported 17,004 units in June 2014, while the number for June 2015 stands at 15,762 units, a decline in export sales by 7.3 percent. Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice-president (Sales and Marketing) at HMIL seems confident about the company’s future and thinks that the sales figures will soon pick up. Srivastava said, “In a market bearing low traction consistent demand of Elite i20, Grand, and Xcent, Hyundai volume grew by 8.3 percent and with the upcoming launch of Global SUV (sports utility vehicle) Creta, we are confident of sustained growth.”

At present, the lineup for Hyundai in India include nine models; the Eon, i10, Grand i10, Elite i20, Active i20, Xcent, Verna, Elantra and Santa Fe. The carmaker also boasts of 423 dealerships and more than 1,100 service stations in the country, and has a multi-million dollar R&D facility in Hyderabad.
