Mahindra TUV300 steering wheel and instrument cluster teased before September launch

Mahindra TUV300

Last month, Indian SUV major Mahindra and Mahindra announced the prefatory details and previewed their upcoming sub-4 meter SUV, tagged as the TUV300, through sketches. The partial front section of the car was also showcased early this month (August), giving a glimpse of the headlight, wheels and tyres. Now, Mahindra is back at promoting its compact SUV, this time showcasing the steering wheel and partial instrument cluster of the TUV300.

As seen in the teaser images, the upcoming TUV300 will receive an all new, nicely contoured steering wheel with single sided steering mounted controls – Audio and Bluetooth controls – and a dull silver insert. Twin-pod instrument cluster with chrome borders with an array of tell-tale lights sitting between the speedometer and tachometer. Power mirror controls are placed below the driver side air-conditioning vents.

Scheduled to be launched on September 10, 2015, the TUV300 will be based on an all-new platform and will be sold alongside the Bolero. Tagged as the TUV300 (read double O), with the “T” representing “Tough” to highlight the “tough and stylish SUV design”. As reported earlier, the TUV300 has been mostly designed and developed by Mahindra’s inhouse design team and the R&D has been carried out at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai and will be manufactured at Mahindra’s Chakan plant in Pune, Maharashtra.

The TUV300 will receive an all new diesel engine that will be based on the current mHawK architecture and will be developed at Mahindra Research Park in Chennai. However, Mahindra has remained tight lipped on the displacement and output numbers.

The Mahidra TUV300 will have an uphill task of competing against established products such as the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster. The advantage for Mahindra is the claimed room for seven occupants. Price will also play a crucial role against the competitors and Mahindra will be factoring an aggressive tag for the TUV300.

We will soon find out.
