KTM 790 Duke Prototype (800cc Twin-cylinder)

KTM will unveil its 2017 product line-up at the ongoing EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. The motoring event will serve as the stage for the unveil of some of the most anticipated motorcycles of the year, the new 2017 KTM 125/200/390 Duke. The updated KTM 200/390 Duke were spotted on various ocassions by motoring paparazzi, revealing some critical design details of the motorcycle. The motorcycles were also teased ahead of their EICMA 2016 debut and you can read more about it here. The event will also see the unveil of the new middle-weight twin-cylinder KTM motorcycle along with the new Husqvarna Motorcycles.

2017 KTM 125 Duke

An earlier report suggested that the upcoming 390 Duke will be even more feature packed than its 200cc sibling. The current motorcycles share most of their components but the 390 Duke gets ABS as standard along with a slipper clutch. The report also added that the upcoming KTM duo will continue to use the same motor as the current models but tuned to be Euro IV compliant.

Expected Design and Mechanical upgrades at a glance:

  • The new 2017 KTM Duke series to receive sharper styling which will be inspired by the bigger KTM bikes
  • The motorcycles will feature a bolted on sub frame; this combination is aimed at greater stability.
  • As seen on the test mule of the Duke 200, the bike will get a new front brake lever with a new master cylinder to boost braking performance.
  • Newly designed split LED headlight unit.
  • More new bits will include – tank mounted ignition key slot, redesigned seat, RC-style grab rails, and a new instrument cluster with re-organised elements.
  • Front suspension now comes in a darker shade while rear suspension receives an extra fibre cover for mud protection
  • The conventional Steel saree guard is replaced by fibre saree guard
  • The models will retain the – switchable dual channel ABS, larger front disc brake (320mm), slipper clutch, and Metzeler tyres.
  • The next gen KTM Duke will draw power from the same motor as the current models but reworked to be Euro IV compliant.
  • Euro 4 compliant engine on the KTM RC390 is expected to produce 44 Bhp and 35 Nm of torque.
  • The bike will feature an up-swept conventionally positioned exhaust system instead of the underbelly unit
  • The refinement levels are expected to go up as well
