While the freshly revealed, race-spec YZF-R6 is busy shredding its tires on a track,  Yamaha’s retro-futuristic, half naked entry for EICMA 2016 is this tasty XSR900 Abarth limited edition. Paying tribute to the legendary Italian tuners that fettle with Fiat cars once in a while, this limited edition Yamaha is based on the XSR900, but rattled with bespoke carbon fibre parts.

Highlights include a carbon front cowl, a carbon seat unit, a carbon front fender, an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system and Abarth livery on the tank. The handlebars have been dropped for a true café racer riding position, while the new suede seat is complimented by the battleship grey paint-job. Being a XSR900 at heart, power comes from a 847cc inline-triple cylinder engine good for 113bhp.

Other XSR900 derived features include traction control, ABS, and Yamaha’s Assist & Slipper clutch. The limited edition model tips the scales at 196kg (est), while its seat height is 830mm (est). Production of the XSR900 Abarth is strictly limited to just 695 units, and on the side of each bike is a production numbered aluminium plaque to confirm its authenticity. The motorcycle will be made available through Yamaha dealers from April 2017.
