Audi USA’s first ever production laser light module is all set to debut on the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus. The laser light equipped R8 V10 Plus will be a special edition and showcased, for the first time, at the upcoming 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The Exclusive Edition is limited to 25 units and will be made available for customers through the Audi exclusive program for a price starting at USD 229,200 (Approx INR 1.52 crores).
The main highlights of this special edition are the headlights! Each full LED headlight unit is equipped with a laser high beam module. This R8 exclusive edition is the first Audi vehicle to couple the laser light with dynamic front turn signals as well. As stated by the folks at Audi, each of the laser high beam modules consist of four high intensity laser diodes.
These diodes are bundles into a blue laser beam with a wavelength of 450 nanometers. Further the blue laser beam is converted into a bright and pure white light with the help of a phosphor converter. The laser beam pattern is active at speeds of 64kmph (40 mph) and above or when conditions permit. It enhances the LED high beam and improves visibility for the driver by projecting a low and wide beam of light on the road ahead.
Moving on to the new stuff on the exterior, the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Exclusive edition is finished in a Quantum Gray paintwork complimented by a titanium black-optic exterior package. The package includes a high-gloss anthracite finished front grille and 20-inch 10-spoke-Y-design rims. The overall new look is completed by a front lip spoiler, exterior mirror housings, carbon fiber rear diffuser, and a fixed rear wing spoiler.
On the inside of this 2017 R8 V10 Plus is a full leather interior package in Black and Signal orange that includes an Audi exclusive door sill trim in leather and a leather wrapped steering wheel with a Signal Orange 12 o’clock marker. The R8’s carbon sideblade gets a Solar Orange painted vertical stripe that follows the theme of the racing shell seats, which also wear vertical orange leather elements.
