The current-gen BMW 1-Series in India isn’t exactly a popular car. Largely because, for that price, most buyers aspire for a sedan or an SUV. The rest who are inclined towards the idea of buying something cool and urban were put off the way the 1-Series looked. BWM seems to have fixed that with an upgrade and we feel this new 1-Series should be able to stand out as a great urban accessory amid a sea of premium sedans and SUVs.
While the whole front fascia has been redesigned. It now sports bigger air intakes, stretched out kidney grilles and a different bumper profile. Interestingly, the headlamps now come with standard LED daytime driving lights, while full-LED headlights are available as an option. Sideways, a horizontal crease along the shoulder line makes the car appear wider, while the rear is all new with a new twin-section lighting setup that incorporates LED units which are standard across the range.
Moving on to the interior, the updated 1-Series gets new controls for multimedia and climate control, chrome and high-gloss black surface trims on the center console, and a new M Sport steering wheel. Across the range standard equipment includes automatic air conditioning, a rain sensor, and a BMW Radio Professional and iDrive operating system with a newer high-resolution 6.5-inch built-in monitor. You may also opt for a bigger 8.8-inch screen with Navigation.
