Venue Facelift Review: The Best in The Segment?

Leading the technology and innovation game, Hyundai India is back again with yet another facelift of one of the best-selling compact SUVs, the Venue. This sub 4 meter compact SUV was first introduced to the Indian market in 2019 since then it has managed to give strong competition to its rivals like the Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon. The 2022 Venue facelift comes with a list of enhancements that makes it even more impressive. So let’s get behind the wheel of this new Venue and see what it has to offer!

Design

With a fresh new design, this facelifted Venue has a more sophisticated look. The face of the car is completely new with a parametric grille with dark chrome elements all the way leading to the blinkers giving it a muscular look. A new led projector lamp, the changed slit bumper and the front skid plate make the front of the car look even nicer and sportier. With an all-new wheel design, The 2022 Venue gets a 2500 mm wheelbase which is similar to the Sonet. It comes with 16-inch alloy wheels with machine cut at the top variant while 15-inches for the lower variants. The ground clearance is about 190 mm.

The side of the car is shining with chrome door handles of the top variant enabling keyless entry, and striping of side cladding. The newly designed ORVM comes with the added auto-folding feature and also gets a puddle lamp. The top-of-the-line car also gets an update with a bridge-type roof rail and shark fin antenna. The back of the car gets highlighted by the new connecting led light and the new taillamp cluster with pixel-looking LED lights makes it look a lot better than before and reminds one of the Ioniq 5. Just like the front, the rear bumper also gets the black element in the middle. Surrounded in piano black the rear lights illustrate an ‘H’ – for Hyundai.

Interior

Going inside, the 2022 Venue gets a lot of changes in its interior. The new and updated dual-tone interior looks nice and classy. Compared to the older version the touchscreen is upgraded as well. The increased comfort comes with increased space and a first in a segment 4-way electric adjustment driver’s seat. It also is equipped with a fully digital console. The new ambient lighting lights up a certain part of the cabin at night. Other cool and new functions are the sounds of nature function and the introduction of an air purifier which is the need of the time.

The advanced infotainment system comes with a slicker and updated UI and OTA updates and its Bluelink connected car technology offers 60+ features and supports 10 regional languages. It also has Home to Car with Alexa and Google Voice Assistant to check the vehicle status and control multiple remote functions from home. Other technical features include USB C- type fast charging ports, puddle lamps, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, projector headlamps, an electric sunroof, wireless phone charging, and the higher variants also have android auto and apple car play. The boot space is 350liter which can be extended by dropping the back seats which are 60/40 spilt with the first in the segment, 2 steps reclining feature.

Performance

The changes in the engine and suspension are not much. It gets power from The naturally aspirated 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine giving out 83ps and 114nm of torque with a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.5-litre diesel engine delivers 100ps and 250nm of torque and has a 6-speed manual transmission. The turbocharged 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with a120ps and 172nm of torque comes in a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, and 6-speed iMT options. It also has a remote starting function, 3 modes to choose from (eco, sport, normal), and a second-gen dual-clutch transmission in the DCT variant. With an 18 km/l of certified fuel efficiency, The new Venue provides a fantastic fuel-efficient setup in the IMT version and in the diesel variant the efficiency is 22.7 km/l. Overall, all of the engines are very well sorted compared with the respective segments and are reasonably refined to match the requirements.

Handling

The new Hyundai venue is the same when it comes to handling, which is reliable and beautifully shorted. Unlike Sonet, the Venue provides a less stiff ride and lands itself in an Indian condition better. There is not much to complain about with a smooth transmission, and quicker response. This new and improved Venue is a very well-rounded car. The NVH levels are also great and one of the best in the segment. Overall, it is a very nice supple riding car with good road holding and shock absorption.

Conclusion

The premium appeal of the Venue has only gone up with the facelift. With a fresh new design, improved back seat experience, a supple ride and a bunch of features, the new Venue is a force to reckon with. Priced between ₹7.53 lakh and ₹12.7 lakh, the Venue is actually cheaper than many compact SUVs in its top-end avatar. Looking at the sub-4 meter segment, there are very few cars that come close to the Hyundai Venue facelift
