Volkswagen Taigun could be headed our way !

If what our friends at Overdrive have reported is true, Volkswagen’s new compact SUV is headed to India and could  be launched in 2014.

The Volkswagen Taigun, which was unveiled in late October, will battle it out against the Ford Ecosport and the Renault Duster.

In words of Volkswagen Sales Chief Christian Klingler, Taigun is “A small SUV would have promising market potential for example in India, South America, Mexico and partly in China.”

The Taigun Compact SUV follows the familiar VW design language and looks all set to play the perfect baby brother to the Touareg.

The Volkswagen Taigun Compact SUV Concept is based on the Volkswagen Up! and is dimensionally similar to some B Segment hatchbacks. The new Compact SUV is merely 3,859 mm long and will qualify for duty cuts on its arrival in Indian market. The Taigun Concept is 1,728 mm wide and 1,570 mm in height. The new VW has a wheelbase of 2,470 mm.

Powering the Taigun is a 1.0-litre TSI engine that offers a very healthy power-torque output of 110 PS-175 Nm. Tipping the scales at just 985 kgs, the Taigun can dismiss the 100kmph from standstill in a quick 9.2 seconds. The car has a top whack of 186 kmph. All this and the car still has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 22.2 kpl! (The Ford Ecosport with the EcoBoost surely has some competition coming its way. . No? )

The Taigun looks like a strict four seater and has a boot space of 280 litres which can be expanded to 987 liters with rear seats folded down.

  1. I find it rather amusing that people are actually comparing this vehicle with the Quanto. Please, get to know what quality, design and fit and finish 'mean'.
It'll take the Tractor manufacturer M&M a decade to produce the likes of this vehicle.
