Toyota may introduce a new mid-sized sedan in India

Indian car market has shown positive results as manufacturers reported good sales numbers this month. Manufacturers are optimistic about the growth potential of the Indian market and are working on new products. Latest scoop comes from India’s fourth largest car maker, Toyota Kirloskar Motors, who is planning to introduce a new mid-sized sedan in the country.

The company recently introduced the Toyota Corolla Altis and is in the process of launching the Etios Cross. It also has a compact sedan, the Etios which is sold in India. However, the company is now planning to introduce a mid-sized sedan that will be placed between the Corolla Altis and Etios and will compete against the likes of Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

Automotive website, Zigwheels.com reported that its sources in Toyota Kirloskar Motor have told them that the company is considering various new models. The new range would help Toyota Kirloskar Motor get a better foothold in India, and one of them is a mid-sized sedan.

The most obvious choice was Toyota’s popular sedan in many Southeast Asian countries, the Vios. However, the manufacturer does not intend to bring the Vios in India but rather plans to build a new sedan based on the Etios platform. This move comes in to minimize the investment require to develop the new mid-sized sedan.

The new sedan is likely to follow Toyota’s new design language which is also seen on the new Corolla Altis. The company intends to pull young audience with this new mid-size sedan.

The new sedan is likely to be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine and is expected to be priced between Rs 7-11 lakh given that it will fall in the C-segment category.
