Toyota Issues Recall of 1300 Units

Two days back, we reported that Maruti Suzuki has issued recalls for around 17 thousand of its vehicles, and now its joint venture partner Toyota, has also announced a recall for 1,390 units manufactured between December 8, 2022, and January 12, 2023.

Why?

The reason is the same as Maruti, i.e., faulty airbag controller units. Toyota and Maruti Suzuki do part sharing for both these cars, hence Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV and Glanza premium hatchback are also affected by the faulty component.

The Grand Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder both are manufactured by Toyota at its Bidadi plant, close to Bengaluru. Following the manufacturing process, Toyota transports the Grand Vitara SUVs to Maruti Suzuki, which then distributes them through its NEXA dealerships.

Affected Models

The Hyryder and Grand Vitara are badge-engineered cars and they have almost identical internal components and only differ in terms of appearance. Because of this, if there is a recall on either one of them it is bound to occur on the other vehicle as well.

Under the recall, Toyota will replace the faulty component on the affected vehicle free of cost. The carmaker will be reaching out to owners of the affected car individually. If you are not contacted and you are sure about your vehicle being manufactured between these dates, then you can also check it on the website.

The company has also requested customers to minimize the usage of the vehicles until the part is replaced.
