Tata Motors Teases Nexon.ev Facelift: Debut and Key Details

Following the recent debut of the Nexon facelift. Tata Motors has released a teaser for the upcoming Nexon.ev facelift, set to make its debut on September 7. This teaser also reveals the new “.ev” branding for the electric version of the Nexon, falling under Tata’s newly renamed electric vehicle division. The pre-facelift model simply used an ‘EV’ suffix to differentiate it from its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) counterparts. The “.ev” branding has been introduced previously on the electric Tiago and Tigor.

Differentiated Styling

Unlike the outgoing ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and EV versions of the Nexon, which shared identical appearances except for electric blue accents and EV badging, the facelifted models will exhibit slight styling distinctions. The teaser provides a glimpse of the Nexon.ev’s front end, featuring a full-width LED light bar reminiscent of the Curvv concept. The rest of the design is also inspired by this concept.

Notably, the Nexon.ev sports a single-tone body-colored finish for the upper section of the front end, in contrast to the ICE versions of the Nexon that have a contrasting black finish. While the teaser reveals the front design, there are no apparent changes to the rear. However, it is expected that the Nexon.ev will feature “.ev” branding and possibly unique alloy wheel designs.

What We Know So Far about the Nexon.ev

Tata Motors will eliminate the Prime and Max suffixes in favor of “Medium Range” (MR) and “Long Range” (LR) to distinguish between the two Nexon.ev variants. These variants are likely to be further categorized into four core trims: Smart, Pure, Creative, and Fearless. These trims may also offer optional packages denoted by a ‘+’ suffix. The Nexon.ev is expected to share its equipment list with the ICE versions of the compact SUV.

Nexon.ev Performance and Specifications

Mechanically, the Nexon.ev facelift will remain unchanged compared to the outgoing model. The Nexon.ev MR will continue to use a 30.2kWh battery, while the LR variant will feature a larger 40.5kWh battery. The MR boasts an ARAI-claimed range of 312km, and the LR offers a range of 453km (MIDC). The LR variant will also offer two charging options: a 3.3kW or a 7.2kW AC charger.

Both MR and LR variants will retain the permanent magnet synchronous motor. The MR version will deliver 129hp and 245Nm of torque, while the LR variant will offer 143hp and 250Nm.

The Nexon.ev will continue to compete with the Mahindra XUV400 EV, its primary rival in this segment. Pricing details for the facelifted Nexon.ev, along with the ICE versions, are set to be announced on September 14 and are expected to reflect the enhancements in features and design.
