Renault Updates Its Entire Portfolio With RDE-Compliant Engines

Just like all other auto manufacturers, Renault India will also be rolling out its cars with new engines in order to meet the upcoming RDE (Real Driving Emission) norms.

The French automaker currently retails 3 models in the country viz, the Kwid hatchback, the Triber sub-4 metre MPV, and the Kiger compact SUV. So now, all three of its models will be equipped with RDE-compliant powertrains.

Renault Kiger exports

Along with updating the 1.0-litre engine, Renault has also introduced a more affordable RXE variant of the entry-level hatchback Kwid. Although, the Kwid will be losing its 800cc motor by April 1st, which is when the RDE norms would be put into effect.

The brand has used this time to also update the safety tech on its entire range. Here’s all that you need to know.

New RDE-Compliant Engines

All Renault cars are now equipped with a self-diagnostic device, which will be constantly monitoring the vehicle’s emission levels while driving, along with other critical emission devices such as the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors.

The Renault Triber MPV comes powered by a 72bhp, 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine mated with either a 5-speed manual or AMT unit. This same engine also powers the Kiger compact SUV, but only with the 5-speed manual gearbox.

But the Renault Kiger also comes equipped with the option of the 100bhp, 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT transmission.

The new RDE-compliant cars are said to produce far fewer pollutants than the outgoing BS6-compliant engines.

New Safety Tech & Features

All three cars are now equipped with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Traction Control System (TCS), and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard across all variants.

This move will ensure that the vehicles are not lacking active safety features. Furthermore, the Kwid now gets creature comforts like LED turn indicators on the wing mirrors and steering-mounted controls. While the Triber MPV now gets chrome-finished door handles and new upholstery for the seats.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India Operations, said, “Renault India remains committed to the Government of India’s vision for a clean and green environment.
