Renault Duster 4wd variant spotted testing. India bound?

The Duster is easily the best thing to have ever happened to the Indian subsidiary of Renault. However, the sales of Duster have been steadily declining of late and much of the blame can be put on the new rivals (read: Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano).

It now seems that Renault India is busy developing a 4wd variant to re-create the buzz around the re-badged Dacia crossover. We won’t really be too surprised if the 4wd variant is launched with a minor facelift and comes with additional goodies to fend off the competition from the Nissan Terrano. It may be noted that the Terrano, which is basically a re-skinned Duster, is being promoted as a more premium offering than the Duster.

The upcoming Renault Duster 4wd variant has been spotted testing in Chennai and could make its India debut at the fast approaching 2014 Indian Auto Expo, which will be held in February next year. Worth mentioning here is that it’s not the first time that the Duster 4wd test mule has been spotted in the country. The car has already been spotted on more than a couple of occasions and the last sighting took place in Kerela. From the looks of it, the 4wd will be offered only with the RxZ trin level and could be upto a lakh rupees pricier than the similarly equipped 2wd variant. Also, the 4wd variant will be available with the 1.5 litre K9K powered diesel variant only.
