Finally a Porsche that beats the Nissan GT-R on the ‘Ring?

The lap time of the Nürburgring is an endless battle between Nissan and Porsche. And while Porsche endlessly tried in vain to dethrone the GT-R on the ‘Ring, it seems they have finally borne fruit for all their efforts. What gasoline couldn’t do all this while, a hybrid powertrain has! If reports are to be believed, the Porsche 918 Spyder – the Stuttgart carmaker’s first plug-in hybrid, has set a blistering lap time of 7 min. 20 secs on the Nürburgring. It seems that Ferdinand Piëch used this test data in a presentation made to the rest of the officials of the VW Group before the green signal was given for the production of the hybrid super sports car. A part of the slide has made its way to the TeamSpeed forums and as you might expect, has become a hot topic of discussion. All we gotta do for now is wait and watch for more dough on this alleged 7.20′ lap time of the 918 Spyder…
