Nissan has showcased three global models for the first time for the dynamic Indian markets-The X-trail, Qashqai and Juke. Confirming that testing has begun on the X-Trail and Qashqai, while at the same time showcasing the Juke, Nissan aims to assess their suitability for the rapidly evolving Indian consumer base. Once testing is complete, the X-Trail will be introduced for sale first, followed by other models.

This all-new X-Trail is equipped with Nissan’s innovative e-POWER drivetrain. The unique element of e-POWER is that an advanced three-cylinder variable compression ratio turbocharged petrol engine is used to generate electricity, whilst the wheels are completely driven by an electric motor. The X-trail comes with both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive in the e-POWER variant and has only the two-wheel drive in the mild-hybrid variant with the former producing 204hp and 330Nm, the latter with 213hp and 500Nm.

The other car Nissan has started testing is the Qashqai. It is marked by a striking design, and an elevated life-on-board ambience, sporting a stylish front and rear profile with impressive head and shoulder room, plenty of legroom in the back, and a sizable boot with the option for rear seats to fold down. The Qashqai is offered with two different powertrain options – one with 1.3-litre petrol with mild hybrid, which is offered with two outputs and the other, powered by Nissan’s exclusive e-POWER technology. A six-speed manual gearbox is the standard option for this Qashqai. It also comes with an Xtronic automatic gearbox, offering customers a choice. The vehicle delivers a max power of 140 kW, max torque of 250 Nm through the petrol engine and 330 Nm through its e-motor. It has a max speed of 170km/h and can go from 0 to 100 km in a quick 7.9 seconds.

The third car Nissan showcased was the Juke which is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid system. The JUKE Hybrid features a multi-modal powertrain and smart gearbox that offer drivers pure-electric power or a combination of combustion engine and electric motor. It also features Nissan’s innovative e-Pedal Step system which allows the driver to accelerate and decelerate to a slow creep speed (~5kph).
