Change is slowly catching up on the Toyota Fortuner. After years of remaining familiar, the brand’s most beloved SUV is finally showing signs of a meaningful update. Recent test sightings from international roads confirm that the next-generation Fortuner is getting closer to reality, and this time, the upgrades are not limited to some looks.
Just a day after spy images showed the rear section of the upcoming Fortuner, fresh visuals have now emerged showing the front end too. Even in heavy camouflage, the changes are easy to spot. The SUV gets a sharper face with slimmer LED daytime running lights, a bigger upright grille with a new pattern and a more sculpted bumper. The bonnet remains squared and tall, keeping the Fortuner’s tough stance intact.
The biggest talking point, however, is the obvious presence of an ADAS radar module mounted in the lower bumper. Cameras on the windshield are also further indications of advanced driver assistance features making their way into the Fortuner for the first time. This is a big change for a model that has long relied more on reputation than technology.
Inside, big changes are expected. The cabin is likely to borrow inspiration from the latest Hilux, with a bigger touchscreen, digital driver display, better connectivity and a more premium layout of the dashboard. Safety tech is expected to improve significantly with the addition of ADAS features.
Under the hood, things are expected to remain familiar. The Fortuner is anticipated to carry on with its tried and tested engine options.
- 2.7 litre petrol with 164 bhp and 245 Nm
- 2.8-litre diesel producing 201 bhp, (with 420 Nm in the manual and 500 Nm in the automatic)
- Manual and automatic gearboxes
- 2WD and AWD options
Globally, there might be electrified versions, but India is likely to stick with petrol and diesel at launch.
Built on a revised IMV ladder frame platform shared with the new Hilux, the next Fortuner is expected to have improved ride comfort while retaining its off-road prowess.
A global debut is anticipated in mid-2026 with India likely to follow suit soon thereafter. For a SUV that is already dominating its segment, this update could make it stronger than ever.
