This Is The New Range Rover Velar; Your New Coupe-SUV Dream

The Range Rover Velar, teased last week, has been leaked ahead of its official reveal that’s slated to be today. The teasers reveal all, including the Velar’s interiors. The Velar is the latest addition to the Land Rover family, and the fourth model in the Range Rover range.

It is a handsome looking vehicle, the Velar. At least more than the competition it’ll be going up against. Stuff like BMW’s not-really-beautiful X6 and X4 models, apart from Mercedes’ lopsided GLE and GLC Coupes. The Velar looks like a cross between the Evoque and the Sport, and that’s exactly what its meant to be.

It sits on JLR’s IQ lightweight aluminium platform, and will be sandwiched between the Evoque and the Sport in Land Rover’s portfolio. The Velar fine tunes Range Rover’s family appearance as time progresses, with sleek LED headlamps, taut bodywork, a sexy roof-line  that leaves the Germans for the dead, and a rear overhang that aims for the sky.

The insides are in sync with the times as well, with minimalist (and futuristic) design appointments that still echo Range Rover’s philosophy, and a center console conspicuously devoid of any buttons. It’ll feature the latest JLR infotainment systems, a high-end sound system and a host of passive/active safety tech.

The Range Rover Velar will offer a mix of four-cylinder and V6 engines from the Evoque and the Sport, with a high-performance V8 powered SVR version hopefully joining the range at a later date. That said, a frugal plug-in hybrid also likely.

Full details of the Range Rover Velar will be announced today. Stay tuned!
